Formation DanceSport of UBC is proud to present our annual FREE Intro Hip Hop Class! The Class will be taught by professional instructor, Marc Generoso, who represented Canada in the World Hip Hop Championships, and Bonnie Wong, who is a member of one of Vancouver's most renoun dance companies, Souldiers. Formation Team recruitment is now open! What is Formation Team? Formation Team is a form of DanceSport where couples dance in synchronization to music. The goal of the team will be determined by its members, being performance based (just for fun), competition based, or a combination. The team will consist of a minimum of 8 couples. For performance based exhibitions all couples are invited to perform, and for formation competition 6 to 8 couples can perform. Additionally, if enough interest is shown, more than one team will be formed. The focus of a competition based Formation Team will be latin dance styles. Alternatively, for a performance based team a combination of dance styles can be incorporated being limited only by the will of the team. Why join Formation Team? For aspiring dancers, Formation Team provides a dynamic environment where dancers have the opportunity to improve their performance alongside not only their peers but with more experienced dancers who can help raise your level of dancing. For those who are looking to remain involved in the dance community, Formation Team provides an opportunity not only for dancers to practice and perform in a semi-competitive environment, but to also meet fellow dancers and form bonds that will last a life time. Team members are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of the club, including performances, competitions, fundraisers, retreats, classes (technique, performance, etc.), and travelling! We are now specifically recruiting for the Vice-President and Bookings representative positions; however, individuals interested in contributing in alternative ways can propose the creation of new positions. April 4th, 2010 Update Hello FDSUBC members! Another season has come to a close and a new one is just on the horizon! Thank you to everyone who supported us this year. You are all very important! It was a challenging year for the Formation Team with the Olympics and all, but we persevered and ended up having a great season in the end! The team competed for the first time ever at the Dance by the Shores competition in sunny San Diego on March 6th and placed 5th out of 5 teams. The other teams were all really good! What made it all worthwhile was experiencing the hospitality, encouragement, and friendship from the UCSD host team while we were down there. One of their team members even paid us the incredible compliment of saying that he wished we could become longterm rivals one day. Hopefully that will be true! In our technique class, FDSUBC unveiled not one, but two highly accomplished new coaches this season; Dimitrij Mikulich, and Elisabet Haraldsdottir, both of whom consistently placed within the top 36 Adult Amateur Latin couples in the world. Students were treated to some excellent instruction that focused not only on technique, but also performance. On a final note, special thanks to all our members and instructors and everyone who was involved in making this year a success. We couldn't have done it without you! If it is, then this is the class for you! FDSUBC is pleased to announce the first class in our Latin Technique series of the first term, featuring our new technique coach, Dimitrij Mikulich! The finer points of all 5 international style Latin dances will be covered throughout the term, including Chachacha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, and Jive. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 8:30-10pm in the partyroom each week. Our class will be limited to 30 people to maintain quality of instruction, so don't hesitate! You may sign up for the class packages on the first day of classes. Please arrive at least 15-20 minutes early to register. Hello Everyone! We are thrilled to announce Round 2 of the FDSUBC auditions for the 2009/2010 season! The audition will be held on the following: Date: Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009 Time: 7:30-9:00pm Place: UBC (room TBA) Who: Everyone is welcome to attend, especially those who missed the first auditions. Those who attended the audition back in July, but did not receive a spot on the team, come back and try again! Conditionally accepted team members must attend. Thank you to everyone who showed up to our auditions! They ran very smoothly and we had a lot of fun. Viktor tested the men's coordination and synchronicity while providing comic relief for the girls by having all the guys link arms and perform a travelling kickline to samba music, while Dimitrij challenged all of us with a surprise Hiphop routine. | Welcome to
