The Club.
The formation team began its humble existence as a part of UBC Dance Club more than a decade ago, starting with just a few members who were passionate about dancing and wanted to try something new. In 2004, we were officially constituted as an independent club by the Alma Mater Society as, Formation Dancesport of UBC, (or FDSUBC). We still have very close ties to UBC Dance Club with which we continue to have a healthy working relationship.
The club currently exists in two parts: Latin Technique/Conditioning Class, and the FDSUBC Latin Formation Team.
1) Latin Technique/Conditioning Class
These classes take place once a week during the school year and are taught by our very own Dimitrij Mikulich, 2005 German national Latin amateur champion. This class is open to anyone who wants to improve their Latin ballroom dancing as well as your conditioning and coordination overall.
Classes for the 2009/2010 season start on October 7th, 2009, and are held on Wednesdays 8:30pm-10:00pm in the Partyroom at the UBC Student Union Building.
2) The FDSUBC Latin Formation Team
The formation team typically consists of 8 dance couples that perform a synchronized dance routine to music. The team has practices and lessons each week and also attend the above-mentioned technique class. We perform as well as compete at various in local competitions.
